BALANCE AND COMPOSURE RELEASE NEW SONG “ANY MEANS”
Balance and Composure dive deep into self-reflection with their new track "Any Means," from their upcoming fourth album With You In Spirit, set for release on October 4th under Memory Music, the label of long-time collaborator and Grammy-nominated producer Will Yip. This album is their first in nearly a decade. Vocalist and guitarist Jon Simmons takes a raw, introspective look at the foundations of life, grappling with themes like preemptive grief, struggles with faith, familial duty, and the inevitability of mortality. These heavy burdens were present as Simmons crafted the song, though they were also things he tried—sometimes successfully, not—to push aside.
Back in 2016, Light We Made was supposed to be Balance and Composure’s swan song. By the time they announced their breakup in 2019, it was clear the spark had faded—they felt like they’d reached the end of the line. But when the pandemic hit and upended everyone’s lives, Jon Simmons started feeling the absence of his long-time bandmates more acutely.
Then came a message from Erik Petersen: What if they just tried writing music together again? No expectations, just jamming for the sake of it. Everyone was on board—it turns out they’d all been feeling the same void. So, in October 2022, they got back together and started writing new songs.
“I felt like a kid again,” Simmons shares. “We were writing these tracks just to have an outlet, to hang out with friends, without any pressure. We’d been craving that connection, and as soon as we started playing, it was like we found it again. None of us wanted that feeling to end.”
